Have just had a bedroom re-plastered, should I paper it first or just paint the walls?

Had a upstairs room replastered, due to it being really uneven and having lots of patch jobs. the last time i had a room replastered, i waited about a week, applied some primer and then put lining paper on. painted this the colour i wanted.

someone has told me i can paint the walls, after using the same sort of primer, and it will look the same,

is this true or could i have problems later, for example paint coming away from wall?

there is it better to paper and paint or will just painting the walls make to difference?Have just had a bedroom re-plastered, should I paper it first or just paint the walls?
First of all you have to decide whether you prefer painted or papered walls.

If you prefer painted walls you don't have to put a primer on you can give it one coat of watered down emulsion, this will act as a primer, then give it a second coat of the emulsion.

A newly plastered wall does not need lining paper, if you like a patterned wall you can always paper it with an anaglypta patern of your choice then emulsion it, you can then alter the colour when you get fed up with it.Have just had a bedroom re-plastered, should I paper it first or just paint the walls?
Use white matt water based emulsion,

Mix with water at 50/50 for first coat paint walls and let it dry properly, repeat once dry.

Lightly sand the wall to take off any high spots also fill in any holes or dents using a fine filler at the 50/50 stage.

Then paint again white un mixed 2 coats if you wish.

Once the walls are primed like the above you can always use different colours for final effect and wall paper in the future without worrying about damaging the walls when removing old wall paper.
I also have plaster walls that have been redone...you do need to put a good prime coat/sealer on it first (I used Kilz on mine) and then you can paint as usual.

You won't have a problem with paint coming away from the wall ~ the biggest problem is that the plaster can get weepy and will stain the paint, which is why a sealer is important whether you paint or wallpaper.
new plaster does not need to be papered, also it does not need any fancy primers. as others have said just thin down some emulsion fo a fist coat, next fill any defects in the plaster ( there should be next to none ) once the filler is dry sand it down and give walls a further 2 coats of emulsion.
Give the plaster time to dry out thoroughly and paint the wall. Newly plastered walls are quite absorbent so use a cheap white emulsion as your first coat and then do a couple of coats of the colour you actually want to save a bit of money.
Yes, you can put on a primer and then use the paint color you want on top of it without using a lining paper. Just wait awhile to make sure the new plaster is thoroughly dry.
Paint it with a watered down emulsion. This will let the plaster carry on drying out, then you can paper it in a few months time when it's dried out properly.
just paint the walls ..40 odd years and it not come off yet
