my husband and i are in the process of moving in into a new home. Were a little excited since its our 1st home and were finally getting out of our apt. the question is I'm tired of white and beige walls!! i want to paint my walls but colors that are modern and not so BORING!!
The living room:
I have chocolate brown sofas and our frames for pictures are black which can be replaceable so my question is what color would go with the sofas? I'm into being a little dare devil lol as long as its going to look nice at the end. I just dont want to choose something thats going to look ridiculously ugly!!
kitchen:
The cabinets are white!! blech! but oh well.... our dining table is a tall black wooden table with high chairs. i'm kind of invisioning an italian theme for my kitchen. maybe like a bistro red or red whine color. what do you think? maybe someone can tell me what other colors would be nice and what kind of decor to use for both kitchen and living room!
I'M OPEN TO YOUR IDEAS SO HIT ME!!! LOL!!Decorating tips. what color should i paint the walls?
So I am assuming it is okay for you to paint the walls of your rental house...
In the living room with chocolate brown sofas you can go with just about any color because chocolate brown is such a neutral color. It would depend greatly on what the flooring looks like. Is it wood (which any wood would be neutral) or is it a carpet? And what color is the carpet? Can you see the kitchen from the living room? If you can you want to have complimentary colors or similar colors to bring the whole space together. Otherwise, there are many tones of green that go well with the chocolate brown and so do blues.
Here is a link that shows dark furniture with a subtle green wall:

And a note about the picture frames... you can spray paint them to match your decor so that you don't have to buy all new ones. And painting them so they are all the same color focuses on the pictures themselves instead of the frame.
In your kitchen because you have white cabinets and black table and chairs, you are also unlimited to color combinations. Red, black, and white are great! And so is wine. Red walls would be a great impact! (Depending of course on the type of counter tops you have). When I think of an Italian kitchen I think, red, green and golden yellow.

Other kitchen color alternatives that are good with white cabinets and black dining furniture, are bright Yellow or turquoise accents: chair cushions, table runner, canisters, curtains, etc.
Good luck and have fun!Decorating tips. what color should i paint the walls?
try painting the cabinets about the same color as your couches. then (in the kitchen) try painting it a wine red.
in the living room, stain the trim w/ dark brown. then maybe for the walls big stripes about a foot in length with the color of the red in kitchen and maybe a matching orange?
as for the curtins i would buy regular ones that drape down(: if you have any questions email me
I think a light blue would look relaxing in the living room. I think blues and browns make a nice combo too. For the kitchen design, warm hues like orange, reds, yellows will look nice. You can use pots, decorative jars with peppers, dried flowers to bring the Italian theme together. Good luck!
